Ensuring Safety Buy a Baby Car seat its the Law in Canada

By Rev H. Felcher

I think our parents still marvel at all that we have to offer our children; between technology and zillions of brand names, we have choices to give our kids that they'd never dreamed of giving us. I always shake my head when I hear the stories of how babies used to be transported in the back seat in their little bassinets or "Moses" baskets, just resting on the vehicle seat without any restraints. Or how the babies could easily be comforted by the mother while driving because, after all, they weren't belted in anywhere. It's not that our parents, grandparents, and prior generations were opposed to safety; it simply didn't exist in the form it does now. The first baby car seat to be invented was nothing more than a sack attached to the back seat with some strings. This is hardly comparable to the hundreds of options that parents of today can choose from.

Not only has what is being offered changed, but what is expected and demanded by law has also changed. Vehicle safety is an area of continuous restructuring as the government and various affiliations work to improve road safety. The sad truth is that most accidents can be prevented and this is especially saddening when you realize that most deaths of small children due to vehicular accidents are a result of being improperly restrained. We read the how to guides for our VCR's, digital cameras, and air conditioners, so why not read the instructions on how to install the baby's car seat. It is true that they seem self-explanatorythis strap here, this one there, belt it in and off you go. True, manufacturers have created car seat models that are easy to use, detach, carry and install but you simply must read the instructions especially if you are unsure as your baby's life may depend on it. One statistic states that four out of every six children are improperly restrained in the vehicle thus lessening the likelihood that they are safe.

In the United States, each state may have its own child safety laws when it comes to car seat requirements just as different states have different traffic laws. It is essential that you are aware of these restrictions and requirements if you are traveling outside of your home town. Similarly, in Canada there are laws for restraining young children. Manufacturers advertise and warn parents of such restrictions, such as placing children under twelve in the front seat of a vehicle with airbags, but it is up to us to abide by and pay attention to these restrictions. If you are uncertain of the vehicle laws in your area, especially those that pertain to child car seats, you can contact the traffic office, local MLA or other government agency. The importance of knowing how to install your baby's car seat http://www.bchighway.com/myvehicle/child-car-seat.html and which car seat is right for your child can not be overstated. As GI Joe says, "knowing is half the battle".the other half is 'doing'!

Where do I go from here? Baby is on the way and you either have a car seat or you don't. You may have an older car seat passed down by a friend or family member or you may have purchased a new one the moment you found out you were expecting. Are they both safe? Well, logically you are thinking that the baby that occupied the hand-me-down seat was kept safe and is thriving today so why wouldn't it do the same justice to your bundle of joy? Simply because everyday standards are changing and what was considered safe a few years ago is not necessarily safe today. So, the answer is nothey are not both safe.

Can we make this easy on you and just tell you exactly which car seat is safe and perfect and wonderful? No, we can't do that either. All we can do is equip you with the knowledge of how to choose, purchase, install and use the appropriate safety seat.

It can be said that older seats are not the safest choice particularly if you do not know their history. Many people borrow seats, buy used ones or, as mentioned, get them handed down. What you may not know is that if the seat has any damage, cracks, faults or has been in an accident it is not keeping your baby safe. In these circumstances it is not a seat that you should trust your newborn child in. Now, this is not to say that one can never borrow a car seat. It's not an article to tell you that you must go now and purchase the most expensive one out there. You can borrow car seats but they should be within the current safety standard regulations. You should not borrow a car seat that is more than five years old and in fact, you should not use the same seat you used for your last child if it is more than five years old. This is a common mistake among parents and most of the time nothing happens. However, you don't want to place bets on it most of the time. Ensure your child's safety by being certain about the car seat's history and quality.

Oh so many choices You don't just have to choose from different brand names and manufacturers or different features and options. Oh no! You also must choose from a variety of options in regards to "stages". There are baby carriers, rear facing seats, front facing seats and boosters as well as combination and convertible seats. Keep in mind, that most of these stages are for just that; the appropriate developmental stage that your child is at. Infant carriers are to be used with newborns up to about 22 pounds, but the weight limit varies with the model and make.

The AAP recommends that children are in these seats or at the very least, in rear facing car seats until they are one year of age AND 20 pounds. Your child must have reached both milestones, according to law, to use a front facing seat. In fact, the school of thought is that as long as you can keep your child comfortable rear facing you should do so even if you surpass this requirement. This waiting time allows for the strengthening of their bones and muscles, particularly in the neck. Using a forward facing seat too soon puts your child at serious risk of injury or even death should a vehicle collision occur.

Installation above all else How do you use a baby car seat? PROPERLY!! How do you do this? Baby car seats are tested and tested again to ensure maximum safety for your child. This safety is only assured if you, the purchaser, use this seat properly right from installation to latching up your child each time. You must be certain that the car seat fits well in your vehicle. This includes making sure that neither the seat nor baby's head is not on too much of a slant.

When installed and used properly the baby car seat will work to the best of its ability to keep your baby comfortable, secure and, above all else, safe. Baby car seats work with the vehicle seat belts and the seats to restrain the child in place.

A regular seat belt is not capable of keeping a small baby or child restrained upon impact. Their bodies are much too little. The car seat is equipped to hold them securely within the harness, while the vehicle seat belt tightly restrains the car seat as a whole. Your baby car seat will come with a number of features and options, all of which you should be aware of and be certain that you want. Some of your choices will include the type of harness, be it six point, five point, or three point. These work by restraining the child in that many places.

For example, a three point harness restrains the child at both shoulders and once between the legs. Your car seat may or may not come with a detachable base (this is for infant carriers), a head rest, adjustable handles (again, infant seats), drink holders, and many more options. A car seat works best if it meets your particular needs so know beforehand what your needs are so you can find exactly what you are looking for.

You can receive advice on installation from the manufacturer and can in fact even have your installation checked for safety. Online, you can find a number of locations to drive to with your car seat and they will tell you if your car seat is securely, safely and properly installed. Be sure as well that once a child is in a rear or front facer that you adjust the head rest to accommodate their growth spurts. As well, be certain that restraints are secure and you can get now more than a finger between the restraint and baby. If it has too much room baby may not be secure.

Having a baby is a big step in your life. You will want to feel prepared and know that you are doing all you can to keep baby safe. If nothing else, remember these few things: car seats come with instructions- read them! Don't borrow or buy a seat you don't know the history of but if you do borrow or buy a second hand seat check for any defects, double check your installation and be prepared to make adjustments to the harness as baby grows, contact a professional (websites can give contact numbers and people) if you have any uncertainties. Your local health department can also help you make sure that baby is resting safely and comfortably in the seat.

By following the simple rules of car seat installation and use, just as you would follow the "rules of the road", you are doing your best to keep your most precious cargo safe. A child passenger safety technician is within a phone call if you need more questions answered. Look online at consumer or government websites for more information. Stay safe.

Things to Know Before Taking Out a Loan

By Paul Stanner

Due to the current situation of the American economy, a lot of people have subject themselves to borrowing heft amounts of loan from big time financial institutions. Whether it is a mortgage loan, a home loan, a business loan or a car loan, a loan will always be seen as a type of debt. Similar to all other debt mechanisms, a loan requires redeployment of various financial properties during the course of time. This transaction is made through an agreement between a borrower and a lender.

In order to obtain a loan, procedures involving solicitation and verification must be done. The potential borrower will have to decide and choose among an array of product types that cater to borrowing money or other assets. Once the confirmation is made, the borrower may then obtain the money and do his/her desired investment. It is highly essential that one goes through proper advice and briefing before taking out a loan, especially if this is your first time.

As soon as the consumer gets the loan, payments shall now be required in a form of an annuity. This annuity will provide a schedule or periodic payments to cover for the money that was borrowed.

More often than not, all loans are interest-bearing. However, in rare occasions, financial institutions promote charitable loans during times of natural calamities and other crises.

Before taking out a loan, specific conditions and terms are set by the bank or the financial institution in order to clarify payment schemes and ramifications in the event of non-payment. By signing the contract, the borrower will be liable for whatever payment and/or charges that will be added onto the money lent by the creditor. This agreement may also include a bond to serve as a funding source.

Loans come in two types: a secured and an unsecured loan. A secured loan allows the borrower to pledge collateral for a loan, collateral being an asset or a property that the lender can acquire if payment conditions are not met. Usually mortgage loans have a default that allows the financial institution or the lender's company to repossess the house if and in case further payments for the loan are not made.

For car loans, the payment depends if the loan taken out was direct or indirect. If a direct auto loan was taken out by the borrower, the lender can give the funds directly. If an indirect auto loan was taken out, the car dealer serves as a mediator between the lender and the borrower.

For unsecured loans, collaterals are not provided. For consumers with bank overdraft limits and credit cards, borrowing money would require account holders to pay back in cash. Usual scenarios include a customer who goes delinquent in his/her bank account after exceeding the overdraft resource stated by the bank. When this limit is surpassed, this will incur further charges and interest since the money used by the customer is already owned by the bank. The account will then go into debit, requiring the creditor to collect owed money from the customer.

Your Guide to Drilling The Ceramic Tile

By Monika Suri

As a home owner you will like to do things at your home yourself and these include the putting up of a towel stand in the bathroom or the drilling of a hole in the ceramic tiles at home.

Talking of ceramic tiles these tiles have a soft inner core but a very hard outer surface and that means that while drilling it will be much herder to penetrate the outer surface initially. The ceramic tiles get their hardness by the baking of the clay and the clay composition depends on the region in which you procured the tiles.

Most of the ceramic tile available in the market today can be drilled into by using the carbide drill bit. These bits generate a lot of heat and hence you need to make sure that you have adequate oil or water to cool the bit otherwise it can be permanently damaged. The diamond drill bit is another solution but they are expensive though they work beautifully for drilling holes into glass or ceramic tiles.

The outer glazed surface of the ceramic tile is very hard and brittle hence you need top be careful about two things. The first one is that never use the hammer drill. Secondly always drill at very slow speeds when drilling the glazed hard surface of the tile.

The ceramic tile drilling is a very slow process initially as if you get it wrong you will have either the cracked ceramic tile or scratch marks on the tile. The scratch marks can happen if you apply more than the needed pressure the drill may slip away and scratch the surface of the tile.

You will need to very careful and patient while drilling the hole with the drill. That way you will ensure that the drill has a longer life and also there is no damage to the tile.

Now And Then: Photography And The Canon Powershot A590is

By Don Bethune

Photography is a wonderful hobby, both an art and a science, and it has been a source of technical innovation for nearly two centuries. In 1826, the first photographic print was made when an inventor operating a sliding box camera let light darken a precise mixture of chalk and silver. We have come a long way from that day with significant changes in film, lenses and lighting. Cameras vary widely in price, uses, size, and complexity, but perhaps nothing has changed photography like digital cameras. This revolution put amazing shots within the reach of anyone with a camera and subject.

The first cameras were large and simple, with a single plate in place of a roll of film. Chemicals and salts on those glass plates responded to light, creating an image. The first innovation after the plates themselves was a shutter to precisely time the amount of light to hit the plates, not to mention when it actually took the picture.

The first use of film in photography came in the early 1900s and led to the mass-marketing of cameras later in the century. 35mm film came in a roll and could easily be loaded into a camera for quick and repetitive snapshots. As manufacturing processes improved and competition amongst makers flourished, cameras became cheaper and increasingly compact.

After the development of film, the evolution of cameras was rapid. Instant cameras were developed and produced a copy of photo instantly, without the use of a darkroom. Before long, however, film cameras would be replaced with a highly sophisticated counterpart, the digital camera. Digital cameras work by converting light into a series of electrical charges. The camera processes these charges into an array of what are called "pixels," tiny dots of color that comprise an overall image.

The software built into cameras now also takes out much of the guesswork. The aim and focus for you. They control the shutter-speed and help you frame the shot. Special modes help you get the photo just right, whether it is a sporting event or a close up of a flower. The detail you can now get in both tight shots and panoramic vistas, day or night, is astonishing. Plus, you can do anything with these photos, from putting them online and sending them to friends, to retouching them on your computer and printing them out.

Small and versatile, the Canon Powershot A590IS has become one of the most widely used digital cameras. It can be used as a simple point-and-click camera, or it can be used by a more skilled photographer to set up more complicated shots. The 4x optical zoom gets closer than other cameras, and pulls in more detail than a simple digital zoom.

With 19 shooting modes and 7 scene selections, itas a far cry from the simple boxes of yore. It also overcomes one of the remaining obstacles for most usersa#8221;blurry shotsa#8221;with an image stabilizer. Shooting a portrait? The face detection software makes sure the focus is on the face, and not something in the background or foreground. Once you get the hang of taking pictures with these easy to use features, the Canon Powershot A590IS has a number of manual features to start you on a path to becoming a learned photographic artist.

The Canon Powershot A590IS battery use makes the camera even more accessible. All that is needed are common AA batteries. The Canon Powershot A590IS manual is also simple to understand and makes knowing your camera a breeze. And with easy printing options, you will be sharing your photos with others before you know it. In no time you'll be the photographer you never knew was so easy to be!

Water is our friend

By Jeff Cline

In the classroom we learn all kinds of interesting facts about water. Molecules, atoms and how much oxygen and hydrogen is in it. But, I don't remember learning about how good it is for us and how much we should drink.

Maybe we learned, but did we pay attention? Water regulates our body temperature. It delivers nutrients to our organs. Organs such as lungs, brain and muscles can not survive without water. Our blood carries nutrients through out our bodies and our blood is mostly water.

It makes since that when we sweat due to exercise and urination that water is continually needed. We must replace the water that is depleted from our bodies. It is important for these reason to keep your body hydrated

Dehydration is what happens when we do not get enough water. Dehydration can have many symptoms. One is aches and pain in the muscles, joints and back. It causes headaches and constipation. Another clear sign is a darkening or odor in the urine.

Now that we understand that our bodies need water, we need to know how much we should be drinking. A good rule of thumb as to divide you body weight by 2, that is how many ounces you should be consuming.

All of the water does not have to come from straight water. Water can be found in 20% of the foods we eat. We can also count decaffeinated tea, Kool-Aid's and flavored water such as sport drinks and vitamin water.

Our schedules are sometimes so hectic that we can not keep up with how much water we have drank though out our day. You could keep a water bottle at all times, wear 8 rubber bands removing one for each 8 ounces you drink or something of that nature.

So now that you understand that water is very necessary be sure you drink plenty. Do not ignore the signs of dehydration, better yet do not let yourself get dehydrated. Make it a goal to get your daily amount of water and see what a difference it makes.

Electric Power from the Wind

By Peter L. Shaw

Wind is the affect of air in motion. Wind is caused when the sun shines and heats up the earth's surface unevenly. Because the earth's environment is made of different materials such as land and water, as well as the things that make up these surfaces like wood, metal, and glass, they absorb the sun's heat many different rates.

Today, we use wind energy mainly to generate electricity to run homes, businesses or communities. Wind is a safe, clean, renewable energy source, this is because as long as the sun will shine, the wind will blow, and this is a constant factor in our earth's environment.

Today as we look for new ways to power the earth, it is a natural thing to look at wind power. It has been used for many years to power simple machines of the past. Wind is another type of solar energy, which makes it a renewable energy source. In years past we used windmills, the wind machines of today are called turbines.

A lot like the windmills of yesteryear, wind machines that are in use today use blades to harness the wind's energy. The reason that windmills work is because they harness the power of the wind to produce electricity. The wind machines of today also must have wind to work, so if the wind isn't blowing there have to be other sources of power at the ready.

The turbines used today are based on the direction of the rotating shaft for example; one type is a horizontal axis wind machine, and the other is a vertical axis wind machine. Wind machines (turbines) come in different sizes depending on the amount of electricity that they need to generate. There are small turbines used for homes and businesses, and they will have a capacity of less than 100 kilowatts. The larger sized turbines have a capacity of 5 million watts, or even as high as 5 megawatts these are used for commercial purposes. The large turbines can be used to make up wind farms that provide power to a large electrical grid.

The blades on turbines typically are about 200 feet across, but can be as wide as a football field. These blades are made much like an airplane propeller, and can be made of fiberglass, or a lightweight metal or plastic. The towers or bases have to be wide and tall in order to efficiently harness the wind. This is a great power source for the world of today.

Wind can be an awesome force of nature, just ask anyone who has been in a tornado or powerful hurricane. We can harness this wind for the use of generating electricity for our world. When the sun shines it heats the earth, but since the earth is made of different materials and is of differing heights and valleys it heats unevenly, especially over land and water.

Cover Letter Format: Am I doing it right?

By Jimmy Sweney

Before you get thrilled to apply for your first job, you might want to do some company research and review the job descriptions first. After doing research and you think that you're all prepped up, it is now time for you to make a comprehensive resume and a good cover letter.

Making a cover letter is usually what most people would often disregard. As a matter of fact, if making these letters is disregarded, most likely the right format of writing it is trashed. The greater possibility of being hired is lost because of people failing to write cover letters when submitting their applications.

Having a well-written cover letter will help you stand out from the rest of the applicants. It is your identification because it describes you and the things that you can do. With your skills, abilities, traits, and objectives, your letter will truly get your interviewer's attention and set up a personal interview with you.

Start making your draft as early as possible. Since you are just writing a draft, just let the words and ideas flow. A day for a cover letter is not enough. It takes time for review and revisions.

Upon editing, make sure that your letter does not go beyond the second page. A long letter is not catchy and just a waste of time for interviewers. Interviewers don't care about your life story; what they want to know is your abilities and skills.

Revising your draft will help you to clear the irrelevant things written in there. The body of your letter should include details such as the degree you earned in college, awards received, skills needed to accomplish the task and prior work experience.

Use polite and respectful words when asking for an interview. It is also important to include in your letter that you want and interview to make it sound that you are very interested in the position. Read your letter and take note of its tone. Make sure that it doesn't sound too confident because this might not help you in making a good impression.

To make a good impression to your future employers, make sure that your letter is well-polished without any grammar corrections. You should also be good in marketing your self and express it through writing. Once you get the interview, it is now time to prove your self and show the interviewers why you're the perfect candidate for the position.

What made the Ipod so famous?

By Jim Solista

Why does the apple iPod draw such an immense devotion that borders on worship from its followers? Why do users feel motivated to upgrade to the latest model as soon as it hits the shelves?

In fact, the iPod has established itself so well in the minds of consumers that very few people actually know that it is possible to purchase an mp3 player which is not an iPod. Check out the following characteristics of the iPod to see what made it the "most wanted invention" of the decade:

When the iPod hit the shelves for the first time, it was the only player which was capable of holding over 2 GB worth of music.

The sleek design was unlike the many other considerably geeky mp3 players on the market with its all over smooth facade and large LCD screen.

The non skipping flash based varieties of iPod were a phenomenon for sports enthusiasts who were used to skipping playback on their hard-disk players.

Itunes was a enormous success for Apple as it allowed people to download songs at acceptable prices in a safe and legal setting.

The arrival of the iPod beckoned a new era for party goers and those leading an active life. Carrying so much music about your person was previously impossible.

The easy, intuitive interface and scroll wheel allows the selection of songs easily - even within a large catalogue of thousands upon thousands of tracks.

Apple is constantly improving its product. In only a few short years it has grown from the lowly mp3 player into one of the world's leading video players and phone system.

You can now download apps that will play on the ipod to permit you to do anything from playing videos to filling out your taxes.

The sound quality of the ipod is said to be way ahead of other players on the market, especially the treble levels.

There are some outstanding speakers you can plug into the player now. You can even plug it into surround sound with the correct set.

With the iPod you dont have to worry about the battery life so much as the technology has increased playback time. In fact the Nano can stay alive for about 5 hours between charges!

If the standard styling of an iPod isn't to your taste you have the option of switching the cover.

There are plenty of recurring updates provided by Apple for the device's software and iTunes too. This will help keep you updated with the latest in firmware for the player. This rarely happens with plenty of other market competitors.

The player is more durable than many other mp3 players and will survive drops and falls much better.

As you can see theres much to like about the hit music player from America and hopefully Apple will have a few more tricks up their sleeve for many years to come.
